Who I am:

For the past 10-years I served as the photo editor at The Week magazine —a national newsweekly with a circulation of more than 575,000. I acquired all visuals for the magazine and also silhouetted, retouched, and oversaw price negotiations and annual contracts of our visual assets. I conceptualized and created photo illustrations. As a lean operation, I ensure that deadlines are met in a timely fashion and assist in overall staff support.

I'm efficient, creative, thrive under deadlines, and focus on details while implementing the big picture. I'm also systematic, highly organized, and love challenges. While I have excellent people skills and am a practiced team collaborator, I'm also able to work independently and handle budgets, manage people, and be counted on as a vital part of any organization. I was recognized as Employee of the Year for Dennis Publishing in 2014.

I write and produce a weekly real estate feature that requires me to communicate regularly with hundreds of agents and press executives around the country on a consistent basis. I've written 550+ spreads that appear both in print and online. I'm also contributed regularly to Captured, TheWeek.com's photo blog.

My career has included stints as a producer for Solid Angle, a marketing and event company, Sweet Genius, a photo production agency, an AD for VH1; a producer for Maxim and Blender magazines; lead producer for The Eddie Adams Workshop; and office manager and producer for photographer F. Scott Schafer. I’ve worked on campaigns for Exxon, JC Penny, Land Rover, Macy's, Target, Virginia Slims, and more. I've collaborated on ads, album covers, and magazine shoots, with celebrities and sports figures including Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Erykah Badu, Frieda Pinto, Iggy Pop, My Morning Jacket, and more. I've done illustrations for Mom365The Week, and Solid Angle Inc. Additionally, I have contributed to book and award-winning ad campaign research.

I’ve also co-founded an e-commerce company, Local Labels, that partnered with over 65 vendors to bring their local, made-in-NYC products to market. Some of the press we received is linked below.

What People Say:

"When I was hired to do The Week's redesign, I immediately suggested Loren to step into the role of photo editor. We had worked together on many of Dennis Publishing's monthly magazines and I knew she would thrive at a news weekly. Her strong vision, organized style, and knowledge of current events made her the perfect person for the position." —Andy Turnbull, Creative Director for American Media

"Working with Loren Talbot over the last 10 years has been a pleasure. I can count on her to manage and organize the details of the most complicated productions and take the lead on high-profile projects. Her positive attitude and engaging personality can put the most concerned clients at ease, and her knowledge of the photo industry is invaluable." —Tonya Martin, co-owner of Sweet Genius

"Loren is one of the most thoughtful and sharp-eyed photo editors I have worked with. It goes without saying that, in New York, most photo editors are fast, resourceful, and have great taste, but Loren brings more to the table. She applies immense intellect, a wealth of professional experience that expands beyond photography, and most importantly, adds deep passion and emotion to her work. She exhibits the perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness that anyone would want in the workplace. Loren, in my opinion, is a powerhouse and excels in everything she does." —Haiyen Chin, Former Art Director at The Week magazine

"When I was editor-in-chief for Mom 365 magazine, I reached out to Loren when I needed a complex, mom-related story illustrated. And I knew three things: 1) She would have me considering concepts I hadn't thought to think about—but needed to, 2) It would be on time, 3) The final work would be interesting, smart, and on point. Oh, and I knew the whole process would actually be fun because she is such a professional and a genuinely kind, enjoyable person." —Valerie Reiss, journalist and former editor-in-chief for Mom365 magazine

"Loren served as my lead producer. No matter what I threw at her, I knew she would secure what we needed for our shoots. She acquired models in Russia, locations in Brazil, worked with park rangers in California, and oversaw details for shoots in Bali. I could entrust her with budgets, travel, and crew, and know we would always have a smooth and successful production." —Hyla Dennis, producer and former photo editor for Stuff magazine

My portfolio focuses on the work I edited while at The Week Magazine, but I can provide a wide range of shoots that I produced.
