Mom 365 #2
Back from the other side and never posted this Mom365 Illo that came out a bit ago...
It was fun to work this way and thanks to Valerie Reiss, one of my first printed digital illustrations. Look forward to exploring this medium more.

I vowed to have a little fun this week. To not get caught up in perfection, to just have fun and basically doodle.
Step 1: Cleaning the studio. I found this prepped board I made a few months ago, but never did anything with as it was so out of my color range.
Step 2: Grab that bag of "prepped" scraps and work with what you pull out. The first 4 scraps all looks like creates to me, pelicans, storks and crabs. I literally laid them down and within 5 mins I had constructed a piece.
Step 3: Remind myself art is a process, but doesn't have to be a PROCESS.
To understand more about what prepped collages pieces mean visit my father's site or check out his book.
Living in a city, we are surrounded by advertising. From buses, train station steps to more traditional billboards. Sometimes these ad spaces go unsold and we are left with blank white print or empty digital screens. This LED billboard borrowed an example from empty storefront arts projects and posted a digital mural when its ad space went unsold. Now just imagine if everything we were confronted with was art vs sneaker and car ads.
This past month I was asked by my friend Valerie to do a illustration for the print magazine Mom365 where she serves as Editor in Chief. It was interesting to work with colors and styles that I wouldn't normally choose. I used a base photograph from a trip to Spain and worked in photoshop to create a piece that would reflect the story as well as the magazine's colors and vibe.
